New Look Makeup | Pure Colour Mink Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon Review and Swatches

When I heard that New Look were bringing out their own make up range, I was pretty intrigued. With the success of Topshop makeup, it makes me more optimistic about high street stores’ beauty lines, and with New Look being more affordable than Topshop in general, this was very exciting news.
In my local New Look, the makeup stand was placed strategically at the till. When I was standing in line on a busy day, I obviously couldn’t help myself and check out the range. The Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayons immediately caught my attention, and I was wishing that these possible could be a dupe for my ever loved Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils. I decided to pick up the shade Mink – there is actually no name that I can see on the packaging, but judging by the website I think this is the right name. I have been loving nude lipsticks recently, and I thought this would be an interesting one to try out of the range.

I have to say that I am very impressed with the formula. I was pleasantly surprised at how creamy and smooth this applied, and the texture feels very luxurious. It feels somewhat similar to the Nars offering, but I actually felt that these feel a little more comfortable on the lips. They give a true matte finish which I adore, but they are not at all drying. Mink is a great nude shade which lies somewhere between peach, pink and brown. I can see this being a new favourite of mine to put on when I am being indecisive on lip colour, as I feel it could go with pretty much anything. The only downside I have found to this is that the longevity isn’t amazing. I find myself not caring too much about this as the pencil form makes it really simple and foolproof to apply, but if it was a long-lasting formula that you were after, perhaps this isn’t right for you.
Overall, I am really impressed with this lipstick, and for £3.99, I could definitely see myself picking up some of the other shades. Have you tried any of the New Look makeup yet? What are your favourites?

  1. I just tried out the camel colour which is a perfect muted coral colour for my indian skintone. Its hard to get nudes that suit darker skin – I've been looking everywhere for a coral peach shade thats opaque enough to show up on darker lips and subtle enough for a daytime look and this does the job. None of the high st counters do this exact shade eg. Mac, maybelline etc. I agree it would need re-applying at some point.

  2. I went back after reading your review last night to try the mascara, and it's brilliant. I also use a Maybelline falsie mascara, and this curls and lengthens much better than it. I also loved the precison liquid liner, so will be buying both of these products. The liner wiped off easily with my finger so I don't know how long lasting it would be, but I'd still buy it. Thanks for the tip!
