The Mauve Lip Edit

So this post is basically a result of the Kylie Jenner effect – these mauvey-pinky-browns are everywhere right now, and it is safe to say I am rather smitten with this colour. It wasn’t until I was sorting through my lipstick drawers that I realised quite how many I had been buying lately so I thought it was only right to collate my favourites into a post.

Starting with a slightly more obvious choice from Mac, is the shade Mehr. This has a matte finish, which is probably my favourite formula for this type of shade. This is a creamy matte shade that is comfortable to wear and lasts all day long. Another Mac shade that I hadn’t heard anything of and randomly stumbled across it in an airport in Indonesia is Fast Play. This has an amplified creme finish, so is still extremely pigmented but has more of a sheen. This is definitely a good option for those who aren’t fans of a matte lip.

To get a matte lip on a budget, a great option is the Kiko Unlimited Stylo in 13 Cocoa. This is an interesting formula as it applies with a very creamy finish but dries to an intense matte. It reminds me more of a liquid lipstick than a traditional lipstick, and is definitely not for those who don’t like a matte lip. It is however a great deep mauve that is seriously long lasting. Another budget option comes in the form of the L’Oreal Colour Riche Matte in 640 Erotique. This is so creamy and is definitely reminiscent of Mehr. It is slightly lighter and rosier in tone, but is an amazing budget matte lipstick.

The final two come from one of my top high street brands for lipstick, Rimmel. The Kate Moss collections have been incredible, and my first favourite is from the original Lasting Finish by Kate range in 08. This is another creamy but richly pigmented formula with a slight glossy finish to it. It is long lasting but not quite as much so as a matte formula would be. This shade is slightly cooler than the rest as it has the slightest grey-taupe undertone to it. The final lipstick of this edit is from the new Lasting Finish by Kate Nude Collection in the shade 45. This is definitely the sheerest colour in the line up, which does make it great for anyone looking to dive into this trend for the first time. It is, again, creamy and glossy but is slightly paler than the other colours, which may make it more wearable for those who have fair skin.
I hope you enjoyed this round up of my favourite mauve shades. Personally I think this is an incredibly flattering neutral colour, and even if it is just a trend, I am all for it. Are you a mauve lover as much as me? What are your favourites?
